Ep. 7: Burn the Ships, A New Georgia School System
In this episode, Shanequa Moore chats with former legislator, Alisha Searcy, who made history and was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2002, becoming the first African-American to be elected from a district solely in Cobb County.
Alisha was able to radically change the fate of thousands of girls in her time as executive director of Ivy Preparatory Academies within one year where she saw attendance rates turn around and teacher retention skyrocket. Alisha shares her passion to reimagine the Georgia school system and discusses her vision for a school system built on the success of students and teachers, one that works with our youth and teachers to be innovative and teach.
Alisha tells of her struggles along the way and encourages schools, administrators and legislators to unite, be innovative and burn the ships!
